Society Day Course
This session addresses the multifactorial nature of pain and headache disorders, emphasizing physiological, psychological, and developmental perspectives to improve clinical management. Participants will examine the physiology of pain, including mechanisms like the pain gate theory and its role in pain amplification, which contributes to chronic pain syndromes. Effective treatments targeting these mechanisms will be discussed, with a focus on both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic options. The session will also explore the psychological dimensions of pain, highlighting how emotional, cognitive, and behavioral factors influence pain perception and chronicity. Therapeutic interventions, including cognitive-behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based strategies, will be covered as key tools for pain management. Developmental considerations in adolescents with headaches will be examined, addressing hormonal changes, lifestyle factors, and psychosocial challenges that affect diagnosis, treatment adherence, and outcomes. By integrating these perspectives, the session aims to enhance clinicians’ ability to provide comprehensive, individualized care for patients experiencing chronic pain and headache disorders.
