Parkinson’s Disease (PD) management in advanced stages requires sophisticated therapies such as Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) and infusion therapies. Optimal use of these interventions depends on comprehensive assessments, the latest surgical advancements, and multidisciplinary care. This course aims to deliver focused education through three distinct sessions led by experts, providing a well-rounded understanding of these therapies for healthcare professionals involved in PD care.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify appropriate candidates for DBS based on clinical, motor, and non-motor symptom profiles considering factors associated with better outcomes.
  • Understand the role of pre-surgical assessments, including neuropsychological and imaging evaluations.
  • Gain practical insights into DBS programming, troubleshooting, and long-term management.
  • Understand the latest surgical techniques and technologies in DBS implantation.
  • Review perioperative care and strategies for minimizing complications.
  • Explore emerging trends, including adaptive DBS and closed-loop systems.
  • Gain knowledge about infusion therapies such as levodopa-carbidopa intestinal gel and subcutaneous foslevodopa/foscarbidopa.
  • Understand patient selection, therapy initiation, and maintenance protocols.
  • Discuss practical considerations for managing side effects and device complications.
